Ready for Breck?

The opening day of the 2016-17 Winter season begins on Nov 11, 2016. Are you ready for all that Breckenridge, Colorado has to offer?

With five huge peaks spanning close to 3,000 acres, Breckenridge skiing has something for all abilities and interests. It’s also the home to North America’s highest chairlift, the Imperial Express, which carries skiers up to the high alpine bowls for views and steeps that you’ll never forget.

But perhaps what makes Breck one of the more unique Colorado ski resorts is that it’s the largest historic district in Colorado. The town’s rich mining history allows you to take a step back in time as you walk along Main Street, past the authentic buildings that have stood for over 100 years, and enjoy the town’s friendly vibe.

For the History Buff:

Ready to go back in time? The Gold Pan Saloon was established in 1859 as a rough-and-ready bar for the miners. Today, the saloon is still in business at 103 N. Main Street in Breckenridge, and stands proud as the oldest continuously operated bar West of the Mississippi. Pop by for an après ski brew and revel in the town’s rich historical past.

Fascinated by trains? The railroad arrived in Breckenridge in 1882. South Park & Pacific Railroad Company had rail tracks over what is modern day Boreas Pass Road.

Today visitors can view original narrow gauge rail cars, including a rotary snowplow, a coal tender and two boxcars, at the Denver, Leadville & Gunnison Railway Park located at 189 Boreas Pass Road.

Or, take a tour through a real mine. Developed in 1887 and utilized through the years as a gold, silver, lead and zinc mine; today The Country Boy Mine is open to visitors and provides guided underground tours, gold panning and a view into the past.

For Thrill Seekers:
The Gold Runner Alpine Coaster is a must-do attraction. Ride down the mountain on 2,500 feet of coaster track on the Gold Runner Alpine Coaster. Fly solo or with a friend on 2-seater coaster cars, and control your own speed through the turns, dips and twists around and above the ski runs and through the forest. Open Summer and Winter seasons. Or get exhilarated on the new Breck Flyer Zipline. Featuring a two-stage Zipline with a first dual span of 392ft and a second quad span of 1095ft! Fly through the air and over the runs soaring over 50ft in the air. The entrance to the Zipline can be found at the bottom of Rip’s Ride Chair Lift at the base of Peak 8.

Breckenridge offers a wide variety of dining, shopping and entertainment to complement the trails and snow sporting activities as well. And the ski town has no shortage of mountain terrain, with over 150 trails. There are selections for all ability levels with the longest trail being 3 ½ miles long.
